So it’s 2:20 AM right now, and I’ve just spent the last 14 hours studying. I think I’ll call it a day. But before I head to bed, I just wanted to share this interesting success story that I’ve recently come across. This is the story of Kevin Ham, a graduate of UBC medicine who took a career detour in 1999 and built a $300 million empire. Business magazine calls him “the man who owns the internet” and “the most powerful dotcom mogul you’ve never heard of”. So who is Kevin Ham really?

He was a UBC medical graduate who during his family medicine residency, decided to explore the business aspects of the internet. This soon led him to discover the value of web domains and efficient means of acquiring them. At a time when web domains were dumped like wildfire due to the dotcom crash, Kevin Ham saw it as an opportunity to acquire web domains at low prices for the potential of selling them in the future at much higher prices. To him, it was like real estate. Buying domain names was like buying land, except it proved to provide much higher returns. With time and diligence, his portfolio of web domains has become one of the largest of its kind, and is currently worth hundreds of millions of dollars. For the detailed story, check out:
